Pushpa 2 Star Allu Arjun Wins Best Actor — Will He Accept the Award ?

Update: 2025-05-29 08:03 GMT

After fourteen years, the government of Telangana is set to present film awards once again. During the ten-year rule of the BRS, these awards were never even mentioned. Even before that, during the unified state period, the film awards had been discontinued. It is well known that in the past, the awards were given every year under the name of the Nandi Awards. After the Congress government came to power in the state, it decided to present film awards under the name of "Gaddar Awards." A committee was also formed for this purpose. On Thursday, Gaddar Film Awards jury chairperson Jayasudha announced the list of award winners. She revealed that a total of 1,248 nominations were received, and the winners were selected after thorough review. However, there was one award in the list that drew everyone’s attention — the Best Actor award announced for Allu Arjun for "Pushpa 2."

Previously, Allu Arjun had won the National Best Actor award for the movie Pushpa. He is also known as the first Tollywood actor to win the National Best Actor award. However, during the release of Pushpa 2, a stampede occurred at Sandhya Theater, resulting in the death of a woman. In the same incident, a boy named Sritej was severely injured and has still not recovered. In connection with this case, the Telangana government arrested Allu Arjun, and he spent one night in Chanchalguda Jail before being released on bail. At that time, Allu Arjun held a press meet but did not directly criticize the government. Nevertheless, his demeanor created quite a stir. For a while, it seemed like a clash between Tollywood and the Telangana government. Eventually, the issue faded away as usual, and the government also let it go.

Now, with the Telangana government announcing the Best Actor award for Pushpa 2, there is widespread curiosity about whether Allu Arjun — who is reportedly still angry with the Revanth Reddy government for arresting him — will attend the award ceremony on June 14 and accept the award or not. Within Tollywood circles, there's a belief that Allu Arjun's attitude has completely changed after the success of the Pushpa films. According to his temperament, many in Tollywood speculate that it's doubtful he will come to accept the award. We'll have to wait and see how many more twists this situation will take in the coming days. For the year 2024, Kalki was selected as the Best First Film, Pottel as the Best Second Film, and Lucky Bhaskar as the Best Third Film. If, as Tollywood sources suggest, Allu Arjun doesn’t attend the ceremony to receive the award, that itself is sure to become a major controversy. However, for pre-scheduled programs — or simply by claiming to be abroad for a shoot — film celebrities always have a ready excuse.
