Who will run the Tata Group companies from next year? This is the question currently on everyone’s mind. Following Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran’s announcement of his resignation, the question now is who will take over the responsibilities after him. Corporate circles are debating whether it will be easy to find a replacement for Chandrasekaran. Although each company within the Tata Group has capable leadership, it is well known that having a leader to oversee the entire Tata Sons is also extremely important. A single resignation decision became a major sensation in the country’s corporate sector on Wednesday. And when it is the resignation of the chairman of the iconic Tata Sons, it is certainly not an ordinary development. This is because of Chandrasekaran’s nearly four-decade association with the Tata Group. At the same time, his influence on the growth of Tata Group companies has been significant.

It is already known that differences over several issues have come to the fore among members of the Tata Sons Trust board over the past few months. It is being said that these developments have led to Tata Sons Chairman Chandrasekaran deciding to resign from his position. Chandrasekaran will continue as Tata Sons Chairman until the completion of his current term, which ends in February 2027. By then, the selection of a new Tata Sons chairman will have to be completed. In fact, there was a proposal to give Chandrasekaran another term extension, but the Tata Sons board did not approve it. With a lack of consensus over his reappointment, he has now decided to resign. Chandrasekaran announcing his resignation ahead of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for August 18 has gained significance. He took charge as Tata Sons Chairman in 2017 and has played a key role in the development of various companies of the group over the past decade. Chandrasekaran has had an association of nearly 40 years with the Tata Group.

Following Chandrasekaran’s resignation, several Tata Group stocks fell on Wednesday. The impact was particularly significant on TCS shares. On the BSE, shares of the company fell by around Rs 90 and closed at Rs 2,349. Along with TCS, shares of Trent, Titan, Tata Steel and other Tata companies also declined. The news of Chandrasekaran’s resignation also had an impact on the overall market. It is being said that Chandrasekaran resigned due to differences with Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata. In his letter, Chandrasekaran stated that Tata Sons is a very large organisation with several key projects under implementation. He said that it is necessary to have a leader capable of efficiently running such a large organisation. He also said that it is equally important to provide clarity on leadership to employees, shareholders, partners and investors. He mentioned several issues in his resignation letter.
