Stalin Suffers Shock Defeat as Vijay’s TVK Emerges Largest Party in Tamil Nadu

Several shocking developments have emerged from the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results. Not only did the party expected to win suffer a defeat, but Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin himself lost his MLA seat. This comes as a major setback for both him and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Stalin was defeated by V. S. Babu, a candidate from actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), by a margin of around 9,000 votes. Stalin, who had won three consecutive times from the Kolathur constituency, faced defeat this time. Another key highlight is that Vijay, whose party is contesting its first-ever election, led TVK to emerge as the single largest party. Vijay himself won from both constituencies he contested—Perambur and Tiruchirappalli—securing victories with strong margins.

                                 Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin contested from the Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni constituency and won. This result offers some relief to Stalin, as Udhayanidhi—who is widely seen as the future leader of the DMK—managing a victory prevents further embarrassment for the party. In the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Vijay’s TVK emerged as the largest party with 108 seats but fell short of the majority mark of 118 seats. This has now made it interesting to see with whom Vijay will ally to form the government. In these elections, the ruling DMK secured 72 seats, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won 53 seats. Others managed to secure one seat.
