The much-awaited ‘Toxic’, which hit theatres on Wednesday amid huge expectations, made a strong impact at the box office on its opening day. The film reportedly earned a whopping Rs 100 crore through advance bookings alone. The production house, KVN Productions, officially announced that ‘Toxic’ collected a gross of Rs 150 crore worldwide on its first day, including all languages and formats. Following the massive success of both parts of ‘KGF’, starring Yash, audiences had also placed huge expectations on ‘Toxic’. In fact, although doubts were raised about the film after the teaser and trailer were released, many believed that Yash would not compromise when it came to the story and would have taken at least the necessary care in that regard. However, the doubts expressed by audiences eventually turned out to be true.
After ‘Toxic’ was released, viewers expressed strong dissatisfaction with the film right from the first-day-first-show screenings. The major problem with ‘Toxic’ is that the filmmakers appear to have paid very little attention to the story and screenplay, which has ultimately resulted in a confusing film. This has had a direct impact on the movie’s reception. Although ‘Toxic’ arrived in theatres amid huge expectations and recorded good advance bookings as well as impressive first-day collections, the situation changed from the very next day.
The film’s bookings dropped significantly from Thursday itself. ‘Toxic’ also suffered a major setback in terms of reviews. The main reason is that the film lacks a story that connects with the audience, along with other engaging elements that could hold their interest. The film’s excessive violence and intimate content have also turned out to be major drawbacks. Kiara Advani plays the female lead opposite Yash, while Nayanthara appears as Yash’s elder sister. Rukmini Vasanth, Tara Sutaria, and Huma Qureshi are also seen in other important roles.
