The name that has been making waves across Tollywood for the past week is Ravi Teja. Irumudi, starring Ravi Teja as the lead, has been delivering box-office numbers unlike any other film in recent times. After waiting for a proper hit for quite some time, Ravi Teja has finally scored a super-duper hit with this movie. There were initially expectations that if Toxic, starring pan-India hero Yash, received a positive response, it could have an impact on Irumudi. However, Toxic received unusually negative reviews, unlike anything seen for a film in recent times, and appears to have stumbled at the box office. As a result, except on August 26, the day Toxic was released, there has been no significant slowdown in the momentum of Irumudi's collections.
The situation can be understood from the fact that in several places, theatres that were initially allotted to Toxic have once again started screening Irumudi. During its first week of release, Irumudi collected a worldwide gross of Rs 135 crore. Production house Mythri Movie Makers officially announced these figures. The production house stated that the film has achieved such a sensational success because family audiences have wholeheartedly embraced it. With bookings for Irumudi continuing to remain strong, and with weekend collections yet to be added, there are indications that Ravi Teja's film could be heading towards the Rs 200 crore worldwide gross mark for the first time in his career. It remains to be seen where Irumudi's collections will eventually stop by the end of its theatrical run.
