South America Rattled by Strong Quake in Drake Passage

Climate changes and earthquakes are shaking people across the world. Just a few days ago, a massive earthquake struck off the coast of Russia. Now, a powerful earthquake has rattled South America. This occurred in the Drake Passage. As a result, tsunami warnings have been issued. The Drake Passage is the water body between South America and Antarctica. The earthquake registered a magnitude of 7.5 on the Richter scale here. Officials say it was detected at a depth of 11 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface. With this latest quake, there are predictions that Chile could be affected by a tsunami.
The country has been put on alert, and tsunami warnings have also been issued. However, so far there are no reports of damage caused by the earthquake. The main reason for this is believed to be the remoteness of the region, which prevented any significant damage. A few days ago, the earthquake off the coast of Russia registered a magnitude of 8.8. That quake triggered tsunami effects in Russia, Japan, and parts of the North Pacific region. But predictions suggest that the tsunami impact from the latest Drake Passage earthquake may not be very severe.
