It is well known that companies sign contracts appointing film celebrities as brand ambassadors to boost the sales of their products. Now, a move by a government sector company based in Karnataka has become the center of controversy. Tamannaah Bhatia is a name that needs no introduction. She has acted not only in Tollywood but also in Bollywood and in films across several languages. However, with many new actresses entering the industry, it can be said that Tamannaah is not getting many opportunities now. That said, it’s not like she’s completely out of films. At this final stage of her career, she is securing some chances along with occasional item song appearances in various movies. Why all this now? Recently, the Karnataka government entered into a contract with Tamannaah Bhatia. Mysore Sandal Soap is a well-known brand. To promote this brand, Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) signed a deal worth ₹6.2 crore.

This agreement will be in effect for two years. However, as there are many popular heroines from Karnataka, people have taken to social media in large numbers criticizing the decision to choose a Hindi actress as the brand ambassador. Some even suggested that Ashika Ranganath, who hails from Karnataka, should have been appointed instead. As the controversy grew, Karnataka’s Minister for Commerce and Industries, M. B. Patil, responded. He stated that the decision was made after considering several factors, and the agreement was made to rapidly expand the reach of Mysore Sandal Soap not just within Karnataka but in other markets as well. He also explained that Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL), being a government-owned enterprise, made this decision independently after discussions with various marketing agencies. The minister revealed that KSDL is working with the goal of increasing its annual revenue to ₹5,000 crore by the year 2028. Now, we have to wait and see how much Tamannaah Bhatia, as the brand ambassador, will boost the sales of Mysore Sandal Soap.
