Sharmila Drops Bombshell: Tapped Calls Were Played to Me by Y.V. Subba Reddy
The phone tapping issue is taking a new turn every day. Until recently, it was thought to be limited to Telangana alone, but now it has come to light that even the phones of key leaders from Andhra Pradesh were tapped. Back then, the previous BRS government and the YSRCP government had a good relationship. Especially, YSRCP chief and former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had a strong bond with both KCR and KTR. They never hid this fact and expressed it openly. There have long been allegations that the phone tapping weapon was used during the BRS regime to target political opponents. It is already known through several reports that not only political rivals but also media owners, journalists, and even some judges were victims of phone tapping. What’s most crucial now is what Andhra Pradesh Congress President Y.S. Sharmila revealed before the media on Wednesday, which has turned the issue even more sensational.
According to Sharmila, not only was tapping done to serve vested interests, but also, records of this phone tapping were reportedly handed over to the then Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. She made sensational allegations stating that current Rajya Sabha MP Y.V. Subba Reddy played her the audio recordings of her own phone tap. However, she remarked that Y.V. Subba Reddy may not accept this now, but she would swear on the Bible and still repeat the same. These statements have now become a major sensation in both states. It is known that the phone tapping investigation accelerated after former Telangana SIB (Special Intelligence Bureau) chief Prabhakar Rao returned from the U.S. In this context, Sharmila’s claim that the recordings of her own tapped phone were played to her becomes a key development. Sharmila’s comments to the media on Wednesday were as follows:
“Phone tapping in Telangana is a fact. My phone, my husband's phone, and the phones of those close to me were tapped. Y.V. Subba Reddy himself confirmed that phone tapping had occurred. I was played one of the audios that were tapped. Wherever I’m summoned for an investigation into phone tapping, I will go. I swear on the Bible—phone tapping is the absolute truth. The investigation into Revanth and Chandrababu’s phone tapping must be sped up. Looking at the relationship between Jagan and KCR back then, even blood relations pale in comparison. You may ask—what did you do when you came to know about the phone tapping? You may question—wasn’t it illegal and unethical? You may ask—why were you silent if you heard it in your own home? The situation back then was different. What Jagan and KCR did at that time was tyranny. Compared to their atrocities, phone tapping is a minor thing.
I am Jagan’s biological sister. Forgetting that, they conspired so that I wouldn’t rise either financially or politically. They did everything to bury my future. The phone tapping conspiracy was part of that. They threatened those who supported me. They intimidated my followers. They made it difficult for me to even breathe. Jagan had nothing to do with me starting a party in Telangana. For KCR, he tried to trample me down. He made circumstances around me difficult. I fought for my survival. They opposed every step of my struggle. Action must be taken against phone tapping. Wherever I’m called, I’ll go. If I want to file a case, I’ll do it right away. The governments of both states should intensify the investigation into the phone tapping issue,” she said.
