Mojtaba Khamenei Takes Charge Amid Iran Crisis!

Despite repeated warnings from the United States, Iran did not step back anywhere. It was officially announced that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a U.S.–Israel attack, has been elected as the new Supreme Leader of Iran. After this announcement, both Russia and China responded. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia would extend full support to Iran. He said Moscow would stand by Tehran and also congratulated the new Supreme Leader. At a time when reports are emerging that Russia is supporting Iran from behind the scenes, Putin’s response has become significant. China also responded on this matter. China clarified that the election of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new Supreme Leader is an internal matter of that country, but it also made it clear that it would oppose any attempts to target him.
It is known that the United States had announced a few days ago that even if Mojtaba Khamenei becomes the new Supreme Leader, they would not spare him. In this context, the statements from Russia and China have gained importance. Iran, which is facing severe difficulties due to the attacks by the United States and Israel, is now said to be sharpening new war strategies under the shadow of Khamenei’s son. In terms of weapons capability and other aspects, Iran cannot match the United States anywhere, yet it is sending signals that it will not back down and is continuing attacks targeting U.S. bases in Arab countries. Iran’s new Supreme Leader is the second son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the recent attacks. Reports have emerged that Mojtaba was elected in a virtual meeting of the 88-member Assembly of Experts. Although Mojtaba Khamenei has never held any government position in the past, there has been a campaign that he has been controlling Iran’s administrative machinery from behind the scenes.
The United States imposed sanctions on him in 2019. He is said to have a strong hold over departments such as the IRGC and intelligence agencies. Analysts believe that this appointment happened due to pressure from Iran’s powerful military wing, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC strongly believes that in the current crisis situation, Mojtaba, who has close relations with the security establishment, is the right person to lead the country. In fact, in the past, Iran’s leadership strongly opposed hereditary rule. But in the current extraordinary circumstances, it is said that the old principles were set aside and the reins were handed over to Khamenei’s son. It remains to be seen how the United States and Israel will respond to the latest developments. Although there is some dissatisfaction among the people of Iran, information suggests that many believe this is the right decision in the present circumstances.
