Who’s Behind the PIL? Minister’s Role in Land Case Sparks Suspicion

The Revanth Reddy government in Telangana has faced embarrassment after its own party MLAs filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against it. Since Monday, this issue has become a topic of intense discussion in both political and administrative circles. The controversy revolves around 27 acres of highly valuable government land in Khajaguda, reportedly worth thousands of crores, which was allegedly facilitated to a prominent real estate company. Additionally, the GHMC granted permissions for massive constructions on the land. It is known that ever since the Congress government came to power in Telangana, the Municipal Administration portfolio has remained with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy himself. The Congress MLAs approached the High Court through a PIL stating that government land was being handed over to private individuals through irregular means and that permissions were being granted for constructions there. This essentially means that they challenged the decisions of not only the Revenue Department but also the Municipal Administration, which is under the CM's purview.

The MLAs mentioned in their petition that although they had already complained to the government, no action had been taken, and hence, they were compelled to approach the court to protect the government land worth thousands of crores. Congress MLAs Anirudh Reddy, Yennam Srinivas Reddy, K. Rajesh Reddy, and Bhukya Murali Naik approached the Telangana High Court on this issue. While hearing the petition on Monday, the court directed the petitioners to lodge a detailed complaint with the concerned departments and submit the information to the court, adjourning the case for two weeks. Meanwhile, the government has focused attention on identifying who was behind this explosive episode. Reports suggest that key details have come to light. The government has received information indicating that a minister from Nalgonda district is behind this entire episode. It is said that the minister has been deeply dissatisfied with the attitude of senior government leaders for some time.

There are claims that the entire episode was carried out under his watch, and that he orchestrated it to challenge key figures in high positions. With these developments, internal rifts—particularly within the cabinet—are believed to have surfaced in the Congress party. There is speculation that more twists and turns could emerge in the coming days. There are already criticisms that several ministers are running their departments like personal fiefdoms. Furthermore, complaints about a lack of coordination between key departments have been longstanding. Against this backdrop, a senior minister reportedly enabling party MLAs to file a PIL against their own government reflects the gravity of the situation, many are pointing out. Now, it remains to be seen how many more twists this high-stakes Khajaguda land episode, worth thousands of crores, will take in the coming days. Already, a prominent real estate company has launched a major venture there and is carrying out rapid construction work.
