Revanth Reddy’s T Square Project Stuck in Limbo!

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is no less than other political leaders when it comes to presenting people with a colourful picture of development. The way his government has functioned over the past three years makes this clear. The situation has now reached a point where, in the case of several key projects, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy makes announcements but fails to deliver on them. Just a few months after the Congress government came to power in Telangana, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made a key announcement. He declared with much fanfare that the Telangana government would develop a 'T Square' at Rayadurgam Knowledge City, modelled on the hugely popular Times Square in New York. He said T Square would be accessible to the public 24 hours a day. The project was envisioned as a destination where multinational companies would establish their presence, meetings would take place regularly, and entertainment programmes would be organised.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed officials to complete all preparations for the construction of T Square and begin work in November 2025 itself. More than a year has passed since the Chief Minister made this announcement. However, forget about starting construction, there appears to be no indication that even the designs for the project have been finalised so far. Officials are also stating that there has been no progress on the T Square project. The Telangana government entrusted the responsibility for implementing the project to the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC). Chief Minister Revanth Reddy now appears to have completely forgotten about the T Square project. He had said that once completed, T Square would become a major tourist hub in Hyderabad. Given the current situation, officials say completing the T Square project during the present Congress government's term appears highly unlikely.
This is not the only instance. The Telangana government also made a grand announcement about taking over Hyderabad Metro Rail. It claimed that the move would bring significant benefits to the government and announced that loans were being secured at very low interest rates. The government also announced that the Railway Finance Corporation (RFC), a central government entity, had sanctioned loans. However, just when the funds were due to be released, the process hit a roadblock. As a result, the entire matter has now returned to square one. Officials say that instead of generating savings through the proposal, the government is now facing a situation in which it could incur substantial losses because the metro takeover has stalled after everything had been finalised. Officials are also reportedly making fun of the Revanth Reddy government, saying that taking hasty decisions without proper planning and then looking for a way out has become a habit. They say that despite suffering setbacks on several fronts, the government has made no effort to change its approach.
