Minister’s Remarks on Phone Tapping Leave Govt Red-Faced!
The Revanth Reddy government is facing criticism for failing to take action in the phone tapping issue that took place during the BRS regime. In this context, the comments made by Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy are triggering further controversy. His recent remarks suggesting that BRS is still carrying out telephone tapping even under the Congress government are drawing sharp criticism. Even Congress leaders are commenting whether there can be anything more embarrassing for the government than this. There is a discussion that Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, with his comments, has brought disrepute to the government just ahead of the municipal elections. It is well known that the highly crucial Home Department in Telangana is also under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Since the Congress government came to power in the state, this department has remained with the Chief Minister. In such a situation, a senior leader opined that Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy speaking as if BRS leaders are still carrying out phone tapping even under the Congress government is nothing but an act of embarrassing the government.
The minister expressed anger over the leakage of matters discussed in the review he conducted with officials regarding the Edulapuram municipal elections. He said an inquiry would be ordered to find out whether these matters were heard through phone tapping or how they came out. At the same time, he stated that looking at all this, it is confirmed that they still possess phone tapping equipment. Minister Ponguleti announced that the government will seriously focus on how many pieces of equipment are there, in which mango orchards and which farmhouses they are located, and will conduct an inquiry into how many people’s conversations are being secretly tapped even now.
He said those responsible will be dealt with strictly as per the law. In the past, none of the statements made by Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy have actually materialized. His earlier hype that bombs would explode in the Formula E race case also eventually fizzled out. It is well known that PCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud had expressed anger at Ponguleti for making statements on issues related to panchayat elections and other departments. Now, ahead of the municipal elections, even officials are stunned by his remarks suggesting that BRS is still carrying out telephone tapping under the Congress government. If such a thing is indeed happening, it would amount to nothing but a failure of the government. There is a discussion that the comments made by Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy have caused embarrassment to the government.
