Big Twist in Andhra Politics:Pithapuram Varma Stripped of Key TDP Post

A major setback has hit Pithapuram Varma after Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu removed him from the post of Pithapuram constituency in-charge. It is well known that the Pithapuram Assembly seat was allotted to Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan as part of the TDP-Jana Sena alliance. At that time, Chandrababu Naidu had reportedly assured Varma that he would be given an MLC position in return. During the elections, Pawan Kalyan himself publicly stated that he was placing the responsibility of his victory in Pithapuram on Varma. However, after the elections, even though Pawan Kalyan did not directly make any controversial remarks, his brother and MLC Nagababu sparked a major controversy with comments targeting Varma. Speaking at a public meeting, Nagababu said that the key reasons behind Pawan Kalyan’s victory in Pithapuram were Pawan himself, the local voters, and Jana Sena supporters. He further remarked that if anyone believed they alone had ensured Pawan’s victory, “that is their fate,” indirectly criticizing Varma. Those remarks created significant political uproar at the time.
Despite Chandrababu Naidu’s earlier assurance, Varma was not given the promised MLC post. Now, he has also been removed from the responsibility of constituency in-charge. Reports suggest that a special committee may soon be formed to oversee party affairs in Pithapuram. Recently, a controversy erupted in Pithapuram over political flex banners, and media reports claimed that Chandrababu Naidu expressed serious displeasure over the issue. Critics within TDP circles are now alleging that the latest decision was taken mainly to keep Pawan Kalyan satisfied. Some party leaders argue that Chandrababu Naidu has always functioned this way — prioritizing political convenience and avoiding complications over rewarding leaders who worked sincerely for the party. One senior TDP leader reportedly commented that Chandrababu gives greater importance to maintaining smooth political equations than recognizing the efforts of party workers.
Another important point being discussed is that Pawan Kalyan too allegedly did not make any serious effort to help Varma secure the promised MLC position, despite Varma’s support during the elections. Some voices within TDP itself are questioning why Pawan Kalyan would intervene if Chandrababu Naidu himself was not interested in helping Varma. For the past few days, Chandrababu Naidu has repeatedly been urging leaders of both alliance parties to work together harmoniously like he and Pawan Kalyan do. The reason behind these appeals is said to be growing dissatisfaction among Jana Sena leaders in several places, many of whom reportedly feel that Pawan Kalyan is not paying enough attention to them. In particular, there is resentment that leaders holding key positions are focusing only on their own affairs while ignoring party workers who worked hard for the alliance, leading to increasing frustration among cadres.
