Bhagwat’s Age Remark Sparks Buzz: Will Modi Step Aside at 75?
X

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat has put Prime Minister Modi in a tight spot. His recent remarks have now turned into a major controversy. The Congress party has taken a step further and is claiming that Mohan Bhagwat's comments were indeed directed at Modi. Speaking at a recent book launch event, Bhagwat said, “Whoever it may be, once they turn 75, they should step aside and give an opportunity to the younger generation.” This statement has now become a hot topic. Prime Minister Modi will turn 75 in September 2025. With that, the question of what decision Modi will take has become a key issue. It remains to be seen whether the BJP will strictly follow RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat's words or if this will remain just a point of discussion. It is well known that BJP senior leaders like L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Jaswant Singh were sidelined for the same reason — having crossed the age of 75. So now, the question is whether the same will apply to Modi or not.

In March of last year, after assuming the responsibilities of Prime Minister for the second time, Modi visited the RSS headquarters in Nagpur for the first time. At that time, there were also reports that he had gone there to discuss the topic of his retirement. However, speculation about Modi's retirement was dismissed by Maharashtra CM Fadnavis and other key BJP leaders. In the past, Delhi’s former CM Arvind Kejriwal and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut also commented on Modi’s retirement, claiming he would be forced out after turning 75. But now, many leaders believe that, as Modi is the most powerful leader in the BJP, this won’t be an easy thing to implement.
