Jana Sena Rajya Sabha Race Heats Up!
Has another industrialist entered the race for a Rajya Sabha seat from Jana Sena? According to party sources, the answer appears to be yes. It is being said that close associates of Jana Sena chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan are also actively lobbying on his behalf. The Election Commission is expected to issue a notification this month for the four Rajya Sabha seats from Andhra Pradesh that will fall vacant in June. This comes after the recently concluded Assembly elections, the results of which are scheduled to be announced on May 4. All four seats are expected to go to the ruling alliance. Of these, one seat is almost certain to be allotted to Jana Sena. This is because, in the past, the Telugu Desam Party had promised Jana Sena a Rajya Sabha seat but did not fulfill it. Instead, it issued a statement on its official letterhead offering an MLC post and a ministerial position to Nagababu. Party sources say this was done to accommodate Sana Satish, a close associate of Nara Lokesh, by giving him the Rajya Sabha seat.
This time, however, postponing Jana Sena’s share is unlikely. The next set of four Rajya Sabha vacancies will arise only in June 2028, and political players are already making their plans. Since that will be close to an election year, competition will be intense, and the chances of Jana Sena getting another seat then appear slim. Meanwhile, there is widespread speculation that the current Rajya Sabha seat allocated to Jana Sena may go to controversial industrialist Lingamaneni Ramesh. The buzz is so strong that even within the party, there are concerns that awarding the first seat to him could trigger internal unrest. Many party members are reportedly opposing his candidature. However, the final decision rests with Pawan Kalyan. According to Jana Sena sources, another industrialist has now entered the race—Bandaru Narasimha Rao, Managing Director of Siddharth Infratech. He is said to be making strong efforts to secure the seat.
Party insiders reveal that he had earlier tried to contest a Lok Sabha seat on behalf of Jana Sena but did not get the opportunity due to alliance arrangements. Now, he is focusing on the Rajya Sabha. In addition, a prominent Tollywood producer, who has been actively making films in recent times, is also reportedly in the race. Party leaders warn that if the lone Rajya Sabha seat is given to outsiders instead of those who strongly supported Jana Sena in the recent elections, Pawan Kalyan will face serious criticism. They also point out that Pawan Kalyan is already facing internal dissent from his own supporters for various reasons. If his decision on the Rajya Sabha seat goes against the majority sentiment within the party, it could spark significant internal conflict in Jana Sena.
