Amaravati Construction Scam? Jagan Questions Sky-High Costs
X

From Delhi to Tadepalli, the narrative from the YSRCP remains the same regarding alleged corruption in Amaravati. YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy made sensational remarks over the allocation of contracts in Amaravati. He alleged that Amaravati has been turned into the capital of one of the biggest corruption scandals in the country. Echoing similar concerns in the Lok Sabha, YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy stated that while construction works under the Public Works Department in Delhi are completed at around ₹4,000 per square foot, the cost in Amaravati has gone up to ₹12,000 per square foot. He questioned why such high rates are being paid and where all that money is going, adding that nowhere else in the country are such inflated costs seen.

He also asked why projects that cost ₹4,000 per square foot in Delhi are being executed at three times the cost in Amaravati, despite various concessions. The same issue was raised by Jagan Mohan Reddy while speaking to the media in Tadepalli on Wednesday. Jagan criticized that the construction cost per square foot has been artificially increased to ₹12,000–₹14,000, calling it outright exploitation. He asserted that this alleged scam will eventually come to light and that they will continue to present evidence repeatedly. He further stated that “justice will be served” and that those responsible will be punished once his party returns to power.

He also accused that the same contractors who were awarded projects during N. Chandrababu Naidu’s first term are again being given contracts now, but at highly inflated rates. Jagan presented several figures during the press meet, questioning how costs could be shown as ₹11,000–₹14,000 per square foot despite benefits such as free sand, concessions on electricity charges, GST exemptions, and waivers on sewerage charges. He asked whether this does not amount to massive exploitation and corruption.
