Congress High Command Bypasses Revanth Reddy in Crucial Discussions
X

It’s well known what happens in the Congress party when those in the "hot seat" lack the support of the high command. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, until now, has mainly been dealing with the problems he created himself and hasn’t faced significant resistance either from senior ministers or the party. However, Congress leaders are now speculating that this scenario may soon change. The primary reason for this speculation is the recent developments in Delhi. CM Revanth Reddy has repeatedly stated over the past few days that there is no gap between him and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, even asserting that he doesn’t need to prove this to anyone. But, in his latest visit to Delhi, discussions within Congress suggest that Rahul Gandhi gave a "big shock" to Revanth Reddy.

It wasn’t just a shock—party sources are saying that what happened was nothing short of an insult to the Chief Minister, something that hasn’t happened before. During his Delhi visit, Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress organizational affairs in-charge K.C. Venugopal, met with Telangana PCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud and his family, excluding Revanth Reddy despite his presence in Delhi at the same time. They reportedly discussed cabinet expansion in Telangana and the formation of party committees. Congress leaders believe this snub was deliberate, not accidental. Many in the party view this as a grave insult to Revanth Reddy, who, as PCC President, led the Congress to victory in the last elections and is now the Chief Minister. Discontentment with Revanth Reddy’s leadership style, particularly among the high command and Rahul Gandhi, has been an open secret for some time. Still, until now, neither ministers nor senior Congress leaders had openly opposed him.

However, a senior party leader has commented that this situation may not last, and the equations are clearly beginning to shift. Despite returning to power in Telangana after a decade, the Congress has been unable to form a full-fledged cabinet even after a year and a half. Moreover, there is reportedly little harmony among ministers, with many acting on their own accord, further fueling internal dissatisfaction. Observers of Revanth Reddy’s 1.5-year administration are beginning to feel certain that the Congress party will not change its ways, regardless of circumstances. The Congress is currently not in power at the center, and even in the states where it does hold power, there is no clear evidence of strong governance or efforts to strengthen the party. Karnataka is already facing issues, and Telangana appears to be headed in the same direction. Many leaders have increasingly been vocal in their criticism of Rahul Gandhi’s approach, saying he doesn’t appear to be taking politics seriously. Given the unfolding developments in Delhi, discussions are emerging that any changes in the Telangana government in the coming days should not come as a surprise.
