Defeating KCR Is Enough Punishment: Revanth’s Statement Stirs Controversy

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is giving shock after shock to Congress leaders in the state. For some time now, his statements have been raising several suspicions. Along with some ministers, Congress leaders also feel that Revanth Reddy’s remarks are severely damaging the party’s interests. After the formation of Telangana state, it has been widely publicised that the biggest scam here was the irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Project. While in the opposition, not only Revanth Reddy but also some of the ministers currently in his cabinet had made the same allegations. However, after coming to power, Revanth Reddy is now facing accusations that he tried to protect Megha Engineering Company, which benefited the most from the Kaleshwaram Project. The main reason for this, according to official sources, is that when setting the terms of reference for the inquiry commission into this project, they ensured there would be no issues that could trouble Megha Engineering. That is why, even when the Justice P.C. Ghose Commission report on the Kaleshwaram Project was released, the name of Megha Engineering Company did not appear anywhere. This development has left IAS officers as well as political leaders shocked.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, comments made by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy in Delhi are being discussed in Congress circles as potentially causing further political damage to the party. Some leaders feel that Revanth Reddy’s latest statement has given clear signals that there will be no action on either the commissions set up for the Kaleshwaram Project or the electricity irregularities. After receiving the Kaleshwaram Commission report, a special cabinet meeting was held to approve it. Later, the Chief Minister and all the ministers together held a press conference and declared that the entire failure of the Kaleshwaram Project was because of KCR. They claimed that the decisions taken by then Chief Minister KCR at every level had placed an unbearable burden on the state treasury and caused huge losses. From all this, it appears that the Congress party, along with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is using the Kaleshwaram Project report and other reports to politically target the BRS, but there seem to be no indications of any concrete action being taken — leading to discussions that some people are set to benefit on a large scale from this.
Prominent reports emerged that in an informal chat with the media in Delhi recently, Revanth Reddy said that defeating KCR in the elections was punishment enough, and there was no need to put him in jail. Not only that — he remarked that there’s not much difference between the farmhouse KCR is living in now and the Charlapalli jail, which drew attention. His use of big diplomatic statements such as “We don’t do vendetta politics” is also being discussed as having another story behind them. If, as Revanth Reddy says, defeating someone in elections is already a punishment, then why did the government create such a fuss and set up commissions on electricity and Kaleshwaram issues? Wouldn’t that question arise? These discussions are now surfacing, with claims that all this is only for political mileage and that the signals being sent are that no matter what those in power did with the thousands of crores of rupees collected from people’s taxes, there will be no action taken.
One minister clearly opined that Revanth Reddy did indeed say in Delhi that there was no need to arrest KCR. However, there is also talk that these comments will definitely cause political and personal damage to Revanth Reddy. Questions are also being raised over why Revanth Reddy, who earlier said that KCR was entirely responsible for Kaleshwaram, is now seemingly softening his stance — suggesting that something has happened behind the scenes. One minister even commented that the moment an attempt was made to protect Megha from this project, KCR too was effectively being protected.
