US-Iran Tensions Escalate Again as Trump Issues Fresh Warning to Tehran
Iran is desperate to strike a deal with the United States and is pleading for an agreement — this is a claim repeatedly made by US President Donald Trump. However, the reality appears to be quite different. Iran has not agreed to the conditions being imposed by the US, which is why the proposed agreement has still not reached a final stage. Although the ceasefire agreement had been holding smoothly over the past few days, the United States has once again resumed attacks on Iran during the last two days. The US says these strikes are purely defensive in nature. In particular, Washington has been targeting missile launch facilities located near the Strait of Hormuz. According to the US, the attacks were carried out as a precautionary measure to protect American forces amid fears that Iran could launch attacks against them.
Iran, however, has strongly condemned the US strikes during the ceasefire period. Just a few days ago, reports suggested that a US-Iran agreement had reached its final stages. But the renewed American attacks on Iran have once again raised concerns among several countries about how many more twists this conflict could take. In the latest development, the US carried out airstrikes targeting a key Iranian military installation. The American military reportedly attacked a ground control station located in the Bandar Abbas region of Iran. The US military also claimed that it had shot down four Iranian drones that were allegedly posing a threat to commercial ships travelling near the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran has accused Washington of making the ongoing peace negotiations even more complicated through these actions. Meanwhile, Trump made sensational remarks regarding the peace talks with Iran. He warned that if the negotiations fail, the US would deploy its Defense Secretary and “deal with Iran decisively.” Trump once again claimed that Iran’s economy had completely collapsed and insisted that Tehran wants to reach an agreement with the United States. He further alleged that inflation in Iran had reached 250 percent and said the Iranian currency had lost all value.
Trump also stated that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to everyone. In another controversial remark, he warned that if Oman failed to cooperate with the US on the Strait of Hormuz issue, America would “blow up” the country as well. On the other hand, Iran claimed that it had retaliated against American attacks by striking US military bases. However, there is still no clarity on where exactly these attacks took place. Meanwhile, Kuwait announced that missiles and drones heading toward its territory were intercepted and neutralized.
