AP Govt Proposes Two New Greenfield Airports:Ongole and Nagarjunasagar.

The Andhra Pradesh government has brought forth proposals for two more new airports in the state. After the coalition government came to power, it was decided to establish a greenfield international airport in the capital city, Amaravati. Along with Amaravati, a new airport was also proposed to be developed in Srikakulam. Now, the government is planning to develop greenfield airports at Ongole and Nagarjuna Sagar as well. In this regard, the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation has issued a notification inviting consultants to prepare the Technical and Economic Feasibility Reports (TEFR). The notification states that interested firms should submit their proposals in accordance with the Request for Proposal (RFP) by July 29.
With this, it appears that the government is taking steps to develop four new airports in the state. It is already known that the Bhogapuram Greenfield International Airport near Visakhapatnam is nearing completion. It is expected to be ready by June next year. On the other hand, the government has also initiated the second phase of land acquisition for the Greenfield International Airport in Amaravati, which is said to require 5,000 acres. Even during his first term, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had made a grand announcement of “an airport for every district.” Now once again, several new airport proposals are being brought to the forefront. Another key point to note here is that during his first term, the Union Minister for Civil Aviation was Ashok Gajapathi Raju from the TDP, and now again, the same ministry is being handled by K. Rammohan Naidu, also from the TDP.
