Telangana to Follow AP’s Model on Assigned Lands: Minister Confirms
X

The same model that the previous Jagan Mohan Reddy government followed in Andhra Pradesh is now being brought into Telangana. Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy revealed that rights will soon be granted over assigned lands. If this happens, it will pave the way for selling these lands. As per current regulations, assigned lands cannot be sold. The minister stated that if assigned lands are found to be in the hands of influential individuals, they will be taken back. This has led to discussions suggesting that he indirectly admitted that some assigned lands have indeed ended up with powerful people. Doubts are also being raised about whether reclaiming such lands will be as easy as the minister claims, especially if this happened in violation of existing rules.

The previous YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh passed a law allowing assigned landholders the right to sell their lands. Since top leaders in the government were already aware of this move, some then-ruling party leaders and senior officials reportedly entered into pre-agreements for purchasing hundreds of acres of assigned land and later transferred them into their own names. Official sources disclosed that, using this opportunity, lands worth thousands of crores of rupees changed hands in AP. Though the government claimed the move was for the benefit of the poor, the real intention was something else. It's well known that those in power benefit the most from such decisions.

Thousands of crores worth of assigned lands in the hands of two key Telangana ministers!

There is a buzz within Congress circles that two key ministers in Revanth Reddy’s cabinet have already acquired assigned lands worth thousands of crores through benamis. These ministers are said to have made deals with the original landholders in areas very close to Hyderabad. One minister reportedly invested a huge sum, while another minister and a key Congress leader supported the operation to ensure everything ran smoothly. It was TeluguGateway.com that reported on December 19, 2024, that the same Jagan Mohan Reddy model might be implemented in Telangana. The report claimed that two Telangana ministers had sketched out a plan to acquire assigned lands worth ₹4,000 crores, involving investments in the hundreds of crores and expected returns in the thousands of crores.

This has sparked widespread political and bureaucratic debate that the entire process was part of a well-organized scheme. A senior minister even opined that a deal of such magnitude couldn’t have been executed without the involvement of higher-ups in the government. He suggested that the whole scheme was likely designed in coordination with top leadership. The Congress party, which had earlier accused the previous BRS government of manipulating land records under the guise of "Dharani", is now being accused of plundering assigned lands under a strategic plan. Reports suggest that, based on available information, some ministers and MLAs have already made agreements with assigned landholders across various districts. Once the new law comes into effect, these lands will be officially transferred to the names mentioned in those agreements. Now, the focus is on how many twists and turns this issue will take in the coming days.
