Rajya Sabha Tickets:TDP Rejects Corporate Push for Retired Judge?!

As the Rajya Sabha election schedule draws closer, political activity has intensified across parties. The terms of four Rajya Sabha members from Andhra Pradesh are set to end on June 21. Of these, three seats currently belong to YSRCP, while one is held by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). In the upcoming elections, all four seats are expected to go to the ruling alliance. The outgoing members include YSRCP leaders Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy, Parimal Nathwani, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, and Sana Satish. As per the alliance understanding, one of the four seats is almost certain to be allotted to Jana Sena Party. Party sources indicate that this seat is likely to go to Lingamaneni Ramesh, who is known to be close to Pawan Kalyan. However, there is still no clarity on whether TDP will retain the remaining three seats entirely or if the BJP will stake a claim. According to party insiders, TDP is currently not inclined to allocate a Rajya Sabha seat to BJP this time and may consider accommodating them in the future. This stance is said to be under consideration by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

Meanwhile, a significant development is being discussed within TDP circles. It is being reported that one of India’s leading corporate groups has stepped in to lobby for a Rajya Sabha seat for a retired judge in the upcoming elections. A key representative from the company reportedly raised the matter directly with senior TDP leaders. However, a minister revealed that the response was blunt: “Not for the retired judge—but we can consider it for you,” leaving the representative taken aback. Party sources make it clear that, regardless of external pressure, the TDP leadership is not willing to offer a Rajya Sabha seat to the retired judge under the current circumstances. With several senior party leaders already in the race for nominations, such a move is seen as highly unlikely. Of the four seats becoming vacant in June, one is expected to go to Jana Sena, while another is almost certain to be allotted to Sana Satish, who did not get a full term previously and is likely to be given another opportunity.

The name of Kilari Rajesh, considered close to TDP leader Nara Lokesh and said to be influential behind the scenes, is also being discussed. However, since Sana Satish is likely to be renominated, allocating another seat to someone close to Lokesh at the same time may not be feasible. Many believe Rajesh could be considered in the next round of Rajya Sabha elections in 2028, before the end of the alliance’s term. If BJP refrains from seeking a Rajya Sabha seat from Andhra Pradesh this time, it would bring significant relief to TDP, as there are already many aspirants awaiting the party’s earlier promises. Social and caste equations will also play a crucial role in the final selection. Among the names seriously being considered by the party leadership are Bhashyam Ramakrishna and Galla Jayadev. Party sources suggest that one of them is almost certain to secure a seat, while another seat may be allocated to a BC (Backward Class) leader from the Rayalaseema region. There is also a strong possibility that this seat could be given to a woman candidate.
