Thammudu: Dil Raju’s Hype Falls Short, Nithiin’s Struggles Continue

It has been a long time since hero Nithiin delivered a hit. As is well known, Robinhood, which was released a few months ago, also flopped at the box office. With this, Nithiin pinned high hopes on the movie Thammudu, directed by Venu Sriram. He had announced that he wouldn’t repeat the mistakes of the past and would only do good films moving forward. Producer Dil Raju put in all efforts over the past few days to bring massive hype around Thammudu. He confidently declared that Nithiin would get back on the path of hits with this film. However, with Thammudu releasing this Friday, it can be said that neither Nithiin’s nor Dil Raju’s claims turned out to be true.

If there’s anything new in this movie, it is only the issue faced by the villain character played by Saurabh Sachdeva and the way that was portrayed. Coming to the storyline — the film revolves around an explosion in a factory. To escape the consequences of the blast, the factory owner bribes political leaders and evades punishment. The entire story progresses around the schemes he sets in motion to bring a sincere officer onto his side. The core of the film is about the help a younger brother offers to stand by a promise made to his sister. Although they were separated in childhood, the emotional thread lies in whether the sister accepts him back with love. Laya plays Nithiin’s sister in the film, marking her re-entry into cinema after a long gap.

Varsha Bollamma plays Nithiin’s love interest, though there’s barely any significant romantic track between them. Another key character is played by Sapthami Gowda, whose role can be described as somewhat different. During a return from a fair, when Laya’s family is caught in a factory accident while she is supposed to submit the final report — the fight sequences that follow test the audience’s patience with their excessive violence. Throughout the movie, there isn't a single scene that gives viewers a true thrill. Though the background music is decent, the lack of strength in the story renders it ineffective. Despite all the expectations, Thammudu ends up being yet another disappointment for Nithiin.
