Romanchakam Movie Review: A Simple Story That Works With Comedy!
Whenever a film comes from the banner of sensational director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, expectations naturally rise. In Romanchakam, more than the strength of the hero and heroine, it is Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Bhadrakali Pictures that has created curiosity among audiences. The fact that Sandeep Reddy Vanga, along with actor Vijay Deverakonda, participated in the film’s promotions gave it even more buzz. The movie’s trailer also gives the feeling that there is something fresh and different about it. Although Romanchakam is releasing worldwide on Thursday, premiere shows were held in Hyderabad on Wednesday night. Director Venugopal Reddy has succeeded in engaging the audience with a simple story in his very first attempt. Coming to the story, the hero, Sumanth Prabhas, starts a startup called Romanchakam along with his friends. He says that the goal behind launching it is to ensure that not even a single boy remains unmarried.
It is through this very app that the hero gets introduced to the heroine. Their acquaintance initially begins through messages, but after they exchange phone numbers and start talking, it gradually turns into love. Wanting to surprise his girlfriend on her birthday, the hero travels from Hyderabad to Chennai. However, the girlfriend, who had told him that she would come to the hotel where he was staying, does not show up. Instead, she blocks his phone number as well as all his social media accounts. Disappointed, the hero returns. What happens next and how many twists and turns their love story goes through forms the rest of Romanchakam. The director has relied more on comedy than the story to drive the film, and he succeeds for the most part. Except for a brief period at the beginning of the first half, the movie maintains a good pace and energy. Although the comedy feels slightly reduced in the second half, the director still manages to move the film forward without letting it become overly boring at any point.
Sumanth Prabhas impresses with his performance in the film. On one hand, he struggles with a startup project that is not making any progress, while on the other, he goes through emotional turmoil in his attempt to win back his love. He does complete justice to his role as a young man caught between these struggles. Ananthika Sanilkumar also impresses with her performance. The pairing of Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika Sanilkumar works well. More importantly, the team of friends around the hero is what really drives the film. Their comedy keeps the movie engaging and prevents it from becoming boring. Overall, Romanchakam can be described as a youthful love story made primarily with the younger generation in mind. Director Venugopal Reddy manages to engage the audience reasonably well for more than two hours in his debut attempt and comes out successful.
