Jailer 2 Movie Review
It is well known that Rajinikanth’s Jailer achieved a major box-office success. Jailer 2, the sequel to Jailer, which was released in August 2023, hit theatres worldwide this Thursday. Expectations for the film are very high. Whether the movie will collect Rs. 1,000 crore has now become a topic of great interest among audiences. If it achieves this feat, Jailer 2 could become the first film in the Tamil film industry to collect Rs. 1,000 crore. The record would be registered in Rajinikanth’s name. Jailer 2 features a huge star cast. Along with Rajinikanth, S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Sooraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan, Mirnaa Menon and Yogi Babu play other key roles. Mohanlal, Hrithik Roshan, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff and Vijay Sethupathi appear in guest roles. Director Nelson Dilipkumar has succeeded in Jailer 2 more through the way he narrates the story than through the story itself. A gang steals ancient idols and sells them abroad. Rajinikanth plays the character who targets this gang. Although the story does not offer much novelty, the director has narrated it in a way that keeps audiences fully engaged. He has added elevations to the simple storyline to suit Rajinikanth’s image. Anirudh Ravichander further enhances the impact of these elevations with his background score.
The first half of Jailer 2 unfolds in a light-hearted manner. Rajinikanth-style elevations and fight sequences in between are entertaining. Compared with the first half, the second half becomes somewhat more serious, with emotions added to the narrative. However, the action sequences and the excitement generated by the guest appearances ensure that the film never feels boring. As Tiger ‘Muthuvel Pandian’, Rajinikanth once again gives his fans a complete treat. Along with powerful action elements, he impresses with his emotional performance as well. As usual, Yogi Babu entertains audiences with his trademark comedy.
Keeping Rajinikanth’s age in mind, the fight sequences in Jailer 2 have been designed along the same lines as those in Jailer. Vidya Balan’s role in Jailer 2 is impressive. The action sequences in the climax stand out as one of the film’s highlights. The two item songs, included with mass audiences in mind, also add considerable energy to the film. Jailer 2 will appeal to cinema lovers, while Rajinikanth’s fans will enjoy it even more. Released with an eye on the Dasara holidays, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 appears certain to emerge as a superhit at the box office.
