Champion Review: Sports Drama With a Powerful Historical Backdrop

Roshan has acted as a hero in only three films so far. The third film, Champion, was released before audiences on Thursday. Earlier, this hero acted in Nirmala Convent and Pelli SandaD. Since Champion was produced by Swapna Movies, expectations for the film increased further. Whether it is because he comes from a film family or due to his interest in acting is not clear, but Roshan, the son of Srikanth and Ooha, has shown a great deal of ease in acting right from the beginning. With Champion, this has improved even more, it can be said. Even though many films lined up at the box office for Christmas, Champion is one of the films that attracted everyone’s attention. Now, what is the story of this film? The hero has a great passion for football. His goal is to somehow secure a place in the England Manchester football team and play for that team.
However, even when he gets a chance to be selected for the team, he misses that opportunity due to his father’s background. Still, he chooses an illegal route to go to London. With the help of a friend, he illegally transports weapons to a place and, through them, plans to go to London. In this process, the truck carrying the weapons goes to a village called Byron Pally to escape from the police. From there, the real story begins. Why does the hero, who gets stuck in Byron Pally, fight for that village, and whether the hero finally goes to London and gets to play the football match he desires or not, forms the story of Champion. Director Pradeep Advaitham links the game of football with the hardships faced when, even after India gained independence, the Hyderabad State remained under Nizam rule, and with the struggle carried out by the villagers of Byron Pally against the Nizam rulers and the Razakars.
In Champion, Roshan gets a very crucial role and does justice to his character in terms of performance. Heroine Anaswara Rajan impresses with her acting as a pure village girl. The combination of the two works fairly well. However, except for the climax, the film gives the audience a feeling of slow pacing from start to end. In places, emotional scenes bring tears to the audience’s eyes. The struggle of a village against the Nizam government stands out as the highlight of this film. After a long gap, Nandamuri Kalyan Chakravarthy appears in a key role in this movie. Murali Sharma and Vennela Kishore appear in other important roles. Even though the action of the key actors is decent, the josh that audiences expect is missing in this film.
