Rahul Alleges Modi’s Silence Due to U.S. Probe on Adani

Update: 2025-08-06 06:45 GMT

U.S. President Donald Trump is repeatedly trying to threaten India, saying that it is not listening to Russia. Trump, who says that buying oil from Russia is wrong, has threatened war-torn Ukraine—already devastated by Russia—and forced it into a deal for critical minerals. For some time now, Donald Trump’s statements have surprised many. Even though the U.S. President Donald Trump is making arbitrary statements regarding India, there hasn’t been much response from Prime Minister Modi on this matter. This has turned into a major puzzle for many within the country. Especially during Operation Sindoor, Donald Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire put Indian Prime Minister Modi in a tight spot. Politically, this also became a major headache for the BJP. Trump repeatedly claimed that the two countries agreed to a ceasefire only because he said, “If you don’t stop the war, we won’t trade… there won’t be trade agreements.”

Even though India officially rejected this claim, Donald Trump hasn’t stopped repeating his statements on the issue. On the other hand, when the topic of Operation Sindoor was discussed in Parliament, Prime Minister Modi stated that there was no foreign intervention in the ceasefire, but didn’t dare to say on the Parliament floor that Donald Trump’s statements were false. In the same context, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, speaking in the Lok Sabha, demanded: “If you even have 50% of Indira Gandhi’s courage, then say that Donald Trump is lying, that what he said is wrong.” But it was of no use. In this backdrop, Rahul Gandhi posted a tweet on Wednesday targeting Modi. He said that although U.S. President Donald Trump is repeatedly speaking in a threatening tone against India, Modi is unable to confront him because of the investigations currently going on in the U.S. against Adani. Rahul Gandhi wrote in his tweet that the people of India must understand this matter.

At the same time, he said there is a possibility that Modi, Adani, and the economic agreements involving Russian oil deals might be exposed. Rahul Gandhi mocked in his tweet that Modi’s hands are now tied. In reality, to ensure smooth progress in the trade deal between the U.S. and India, several rounds of meetings have been held at the official level. But as they haven’t reached a conclusion, Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff on India and also warned that a penalty would be imposed for purchasing oil from Russia. Now, once again, Donald Trump has announced that he will drop a “tariff bomb” on India.
