U.S. President Donald Trump’s calculations are going wrong. His expectations regarding India as well as Russia have failed miserably. Trump thought that since America is a superpower, everyone would listen to whatever he says. But when it came to reality, things turned out completely the opposite. Especially, upset that India was not following his instructions, he tried to bring it to terms by imposing a 50 percent tariff. However, as India did not show any compromise anywhere, now he himself seems to be softening. Trump’s recent comments on this matter have become a topic of discussion. Praising Modi as a great Prime Minister, he declared that he personally has good relations with him. However, he said he did not like India purchasing oil from Russia on a large scale. On the other hand, he admitted that the 50 percent tariffs imposed on India were too high. He also stated that there is a special relationship between India and the U.S. and that he is ready for a revival of relations with India.
Prime Minister Modi also immediately responded to Trump’s remarks. Speaking about Trump’s latest comments, he said he welcomed the positive statements. Posting on X, Modi stated that the U.S. and India share a good strategic partnership and that he welcomed Trump’s positive outlook and sentiments regarding bilateral relations. To put a check on Trump’s aggressiveness, India too has quickly taken steps to further strengthen ties not only with Russia but also with China. This is also being discussed as one of the reasons behind the change in Trump’s stance. On the other hand, Trump suffered another major setback in another key issue — the prolonged Russia–Ukraine war. Trump, who once dreamed that the war would stop immediately if he entered the scene, has now come to terms with reality. He admitted that when he thought of coming to power, he considered stopping the war very easy, but now he describes it as a highly complex war.
He also confessed that he is unable to fulfill the promise he had previously made to stop this war. Trump claimed that in the past seven months, no one has achieved what he has, saying he stopped as many as seven wars. But he acknowledged that he has not been able to stop the Russia–Ukraine war. He made these remarks while addressing U.S. Congress members at a dinner hosted in the White House. Trump said that because of his friendship with Russian President Putin, he thought he could easily stop this war, but it has turned out to be more difficult. Even though Trump and Putin met and held discussions in Alaska a few days ago, no solution emerged in this regard. In fact, a few days ago, Trump had announced that if the war did not stop, he would impose massive tariffs and further sanctions on Russia. Yet, Russia paid little attention to these. On the other hand, even Trump’s attempts to arrange a face-to-face meeting between Putin and Zelensky did not yield much result.
