Pawan Kalyan Contradictory Statements on North-South Divide Spark Debate

Politicians often conveniently forget the statements they made in the past and continue to deliver grand messages to the public. Jana Sena Party chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan now appears to be competing with other leaders when it comes to changing his stance on key issues. Over the years, he has repeatedly altered his position on matters such as Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh and the state's new capital, Amaravati. Many observers are now surprised by Pawan Kalyan's recent remarks suggesting that there is no reason for concern after Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given an assurance. He made these comments in the context of the delimitation issue. A few months ago, Amit Shah announced that the number of parliamentary seats across the country would be increased by 50 percent. However, this assurance was not incorporated into the actual legislation.

                              Critics point out that Pawan Kalyan seems to have conveniently forgotten these facts and is now speaking as though Amit Shah's verbal assurance alone should settle the matter. Another significant point relates to Pawan Kalyan's recent interview, in which he stated that even Chief Ministers should avoid framing issues as a divide between the North and the South. However, in a public meeting held in Vijayawada in 2018, Pawan Kalyan had passionately questioned what he described as the dominance of Uttar Pradesh and other northern states. He had also argued that all regional parties in southern states should come together and form a united front. Now, critics say, Pawan Kalyan appears to be taking a completely different position, suggesting that even if southern states face discrimination, the issue should not be discussed in terms of a North-South divide. His latest comments have therefore sparked debate over the apparent contradiction between his current stance and his earlier statements.
