As had been widely anticipated, industrialist Lingamaneni Ramesh has been chosen as the Rajya Sabha candidate from the Jana Sena Party. In the days leading up to the announcement, several names were in circulation, including another industrialist, Bandaru Narasimha Rao, who, along with a few others, reportedly made efforts to secure the seat allotted to Jana Sena. However, Jana Sena chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan ultimately favored Lingamaneni Ramesh. The party officially announced Ramesh’s candidature on Friday night, bringing an end to the speculation surrounding the Rajya Sabha seat. According to a statement issued by Jana Sena, Ramesh has been associated with both the party and Pawan Kalyan since 2015.
The party said that he was drawn to Pawan Kalyan’s vision that Andhra Pradesh's development requires social harmony among all sections of society, supported by effective social engineering. Since then, he has remained a steadfast supporter of the Jana Sena chief. The party also announced that Lingamaneni Ramesh will file his nomination papers as a Rajya Sabha candidate on Saturday afternoon. Jana Sena stated that Pawan Kalyan has consistently rewarded individuals who stood by the party and its ideology despite challenges and setbacks.
Even after the party faced disappointing results in the 2019 Assembly elections, several leaders and supporters continued to place their faith in the party and its president. The party noted that Pawan Kalyan has provided opportunities in nominated positions to such loyal supporters without considering caste or religious affiliations. According to Jana Sena, the same principle was followed while selecting the Rajya Sabha candidate. The decision to allocate the party’s first Rajya Sabha seat to an industrialist has attracted considerable political attention and is being viewed as a significant move by Pawan Kalyan.
