The Noida International Airport in Uttar Pradesh was inundated following heavy rains. Large quantities of water entered the route leading to the airport terminal as well as the parking area. As a result, air passengers faced severe inconvenience. The incident has drawn widespread criticism as the situation occurred less than six months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport. The airport, developed at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on March 28, 2026. Flight services from the airport began on June 15. The first phase of the airport was developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at an estimated cost of Rs 11,200 crore. It was developed to handle 1.20 crore passengers annually. Passengers have criticised the situation at the newly developed airport, questioning whether the drainage system is supposed to function this way. Some asked, “Is this an airport or a seaport?” Photos and videos of the Noida Airport submerged in water are now going viral on social media.

                                With large quantities of rainwater accumulating, passengers faced considerable difficulties entering the airport. One passenger commented that “at one place, passengers can see both an airport and a seaport.” Airport authorities, however, said the situation was temporary and that flight services were not affected. They said the water was completely cleared within half an hour and that flight operations were continuing without any problems. Meanwhile, political criticism has begun over the latest developments. Samajwadi Party chief and MP Akhilesh Yadav mocked the situation, asking whether flights would be operated at Noida Airport or boats would be used. He criticised the BJP on X, saying that wherever the BJP government is in power, there is also massive corruption. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also criticised the BJP government while sharing photographs of the waterlogged airport area. The Noida Airport was developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG.
