Former MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar is likely to be given the post of Additional Solicitor General (ASG) by the Modi government at the Centre, and the answer coming from TDP circles is in the affirmative. Ravindra Kumar, a senior lawyer who looked after Telugu Desam Party’s legal affairs for a long time, was earlier given Rajya Sabha membership by the TDP. Both at the Centre and in the state, coalition governments are currently in power. In the state, while allocating nominated posts, some positions are being given to the BJP based on its strength. However, when it comes to the Centre, there is an opinion among TDP leaders that the party is not getting much importance in nominated posts. So far, apart from a place in the Union Cabinet, the major post that the party has received is the appointment of former minister and senior leader Ashok Gajapathi Raju as the Governor of Goa.
Party sources say that soon, possibly next year, former MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar may get the post of Additional Solicitor General on behalf of the TDP. Along with him, a few other key leaders are also making their own efforts to secure nominated posts at the Centre. It remains to be seen whose names Chandrababu will recommend and for which posts. However, TDP sources say that Chandrababu has already given a green signal in the matter of Ravindra Kumar’s post. There is also a discussion that, unlike in the past, Chandrababu is this time dealing differently with the Centre and with Prime Minister Modi. It is being said that instead of going to the Prime Minister and focusing on nominated posts, he is paying more attention to other issues. Party sources feel that unless it is absolutely necessary, he may not make strong recommendations regarding posts.
