The coalition government in Andhra Pradesh had set a few targets for this round of local body elections. One of them was Pulivendula, the home constituency of YSRCP chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. On November 1, the day of polling, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy came to Pulivendula to cast his vote but returned without voting. He staged a brief protest, alleging that the ruling coalition was resorting to undemocratic practices and preventing YSRCP polling agents from entering the polling booths. He also strongly criticised the government and officials, questioning how it was fair to conduct elections without his party's agents. Jagan approached the court seeking fresh elections in Pulivendula, but did not get any relief. Following the High Court's directions, counting began on Tuesday morning. In these elections, TDP candidate Geetha Kumari won the Pulivendula Municipal Chairperson post.

She defeated YSRCP candidate Y.S. Prameelamma by a margin of 13,875 votes. Of the 20 wards that went to polls, coalition candidates won 17. Including the wards won unanimously, the coalition's total tally reached 37. As a result, the YSRCP was left with just three wards in Pulivendula. The coalition government is now facing criticism that it acted no differently from the previous YSRCP government during local body elections. When the YSRCP was in power, it was accused of conducting local body elections according to the ruling party's wishes. The present coalition government is also facing similar allegations of acting in an arbitrary manner.
