Is the person unofficially exercising power in the Telugu Desam Party about to get a key position in the party? Party sources say yes. Ever since the coalition government came to power in the state, there has been talk in TDP circles that he has been handling everything on behalf of a key minister. From power projects to transfers, not a single thing happens without his intervention, say not only TDP leaders but even some ministers. In departments like mines and other crucial wings, files move only based on his instructions — which shows the extent of his influence. Some even say that this man is using certain ministers like puppets, as per the buzz within the TDP. However, TDP sources say that the person, who has so far been operating behind the scenes unofficially, will be given a key position in the party after Mahanadu. Whether he continues to work behind the scenes even after getting an official role or steps into the spotlight remains to be seen — we will have to wait a few days to know that.
Not only is there a plan to give him major responsibilities in the party after Mahanadu, but there is also talk that he may be allotted a Rajya Sabha seat before the current coalition government’s term ends. As part of that plan, efforts are reportedly being made to bring this man — so far mostly behind the scenes — into the open. It is being said that by giving him a key post in the party now, they are setting the stage to say it was a recognition of his services. Meanwhile, TDP leaders say that massive changes are likely to take place within the party after Mahanadu. The party leadership is said to be preparing to sideline many seniors and bring in new blood. Some leaders believe that this “new blood” largely refers to the team currently led by TDP National General Secretary and State Minister Nara Lokesh. There is also ongoing discussion among party leaders that TDP Chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has already been driving everyone in this direction.
