In an unexpected move, Trump recently announced on his social media platform Truth Social that “Project Freedom” operations in the Strait of Hormuz were being temporarily suspended. He stated that significant progress had been achieved toward a final agreement with Iranian representatives. According to Trump, the temporary suspension was intended to create space for peace talks with Iran. At the same time, he clarified that the naval blockade imposed on Iran would continue. The US military had launched “Project Freedom” to provide protection for commercial ships trapped in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran reacted angrily to the project, and with fears that the situation could spiral out of control if the operation continued, the United States now appears to have stepped back.
Trump had earlier claimed that the US achieved a tremendous military victory in its confrontation against Iran. However, it remains to be seen whether this time a permanent agreement can be reached and whether the conflict will finally come to an end. Speaking to the media at the Oval Office, Trump stated that if the United States entered a full-scale war, Iran would not be able to stop it.
