Formula-E Row Returns as Govt Signs Deals with Greenko Firms

The Telangana government is signing large-scale agreements at the Global Summit being held at Future City in Hyderabad. Most of these agreements are seen in the power sector. Although there are companies from other sectors as well, it can be said that this sector has the highest share. However, another key point here is that Aastha Green Energy Ventures India Pvt. Ltd. signed two agreements on Monday. One of them is a Pumped Storage Project (PSP). The company is going to set up this project with an investment of ₹4,650 crore, with a capacity of 750 MW, at Mailavaram village in Nizamabad district. Along with this, the same company is also setting up a 500 MW captive solar park in a solar park with an investment of ₹5,600 crore, according to the list released by the government. This company belongs to the son-in-law and close relatives of senior Congress leader K. Jana Reddy. Not only that… when Aastha Green Energy was established, Jana Reddy’s son Kunduru Raghuveer was also a board director. Later, it is said that he stepped down from the board. Congress circles say that Keshav Reddy Mareddy, who is currently on the board, is also Jana Reddy’s son-in-law.

Along with these, AM Green India Pvt. Ltd. signed an MoU to set up an e-methanol project with an investment of ₹8,000 crore. The same company announced that it will set up a 2G ethanol plant with an investment of ₹10,000 crore. This company belongs to none other than the same founders of Greenko — Anil Kumar Chalamalasetty and others. Another crucial point here is that Greenko Energies Pvt. Ltd. has signed an agreement to set up a pumped storage project with a capacity of 3,960 MW at Ippagudem near Mulugu district, with an investment of ₹24,000 crore. Greenko TG 01 IREP Pvt. Ltd. has signed an agreement to set up two PSP projects with an investment of ₹5,800 crore at Jari village in Adilabad district. This means that, through four companies, the companies belonging to the Greenko promoters alone have signed agreements worth ₹48,000 crore with the Revanth Reddy government.

On one hand, the Telangana government has been alleging that companies belonging to Greenko provided funds to the BRS party under quid-pro-quo in the Formula E car race, yet now they have signed as many as four MoUs with multiple companies belonging to the same group. Looking at these agreements, leaders of that party themselves are commenting that doubts are arising over how far the investigation and action regarding the Formula E car race will actually go in the coming days. One agreement belongs to a family company of a key Congress leader… two agreements… and another four agreements with a different group have become a topic of discussion. There is also talk within government circles that a syndicate worked behind all these agreements. We will have to see how many more related issues come to light in the coming days.
