TN moved apex court for review its verdict banning leaders’ photos

Tamil Nadu government has moved Supreme Court for a review of the apex court’s May 13 judgment restraining both Central and State governments from publishing photographs of political leaders and ministers, except President, Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India in government advertisements. The petition contends that by not including Chief Ministers and State Governors, the apex court has disregarded the equal share of power between Centre and the States. The petition says, the judgment gives an impression that the judiciary is intruding into policy decisions of the Executive and requested the Supreme Court to set it aside. The Tamil Nadu government petition further says that the party in power should have the right to publish the Chief Minister’s photograph in advertisements highlighting the state’s achievements.
