Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi today alleged that there is an unprecedented centralization of power and authority in the NDA government. Addressing Chief Ministers of Congress ruled states in New Delhi this morning, Mrs Gandhi said, deliberate attempts are being made by the government to bypass Parliament. She said, on one hand the Prime Minister wants to project himself as champion of good governance, and on the other, he allows his colleagues to make communal remarks. The Congress President said, it is the responsibility of the Central Government to create and maintain conducive atmosphere for cooperation and consensus.
On the occasion, she asked the Chief Ministers to ensure that party workers are motivated and enthused. She said best tribute the party can pay to Dr B R Ambedkar is by ensuring statutory status to implement SC plan and Tribal sub-plan. She stressed the need to look at the progress of party’s manifestos and cooperation needed from centre for the states. Speaking on the occasion, Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said, UPA government made every effort to make Goods and Service Tax a reality but at that time BJP played role of an obstructionist. He said, BJP has become the greatest champion of GST but it is doubtful whether the proposed legislation which is before Parliament is the best one.
