In Gujarat, 139th annual Rath Yatra of lord Jagannath is in progress in Ahmedabad amidst tight security arrangements. The Chariots of Lord Jagannath followed by elder brother lord Balbhadra ji and sister Devi Subhadra will travel during the day on 14 kilometres of its traditional route. Rath Yatra begins early this morning from 400 years old historic Lord Jagannath Temple in Jamalpur area of old city. The annual Rath Yatra or chariot festival is traditionally celebrated by Hindus on the second day of Sukla Paksha of the month of Ashadh.
Earlier, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel has perform the ‘Pahind-rituals’ the symbolic path cleaning of chariots at the temple before the start of procession. BJP National President Amit Shah has performed Mangala Arti at the temple early this morning. 18 decorated elephants are leading the Rath Yatra- as according to century old traditions, the elephants have the first glimpse of Lord Jagannath.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made to maintain law and order situation. It is said that Lord Jagannath ji along with brother Balbhadra ji and Sister Devi Subhadra ji are taking a round of the city to see the well beings of their devotees. Lakhs of devotees gathered both sides of the entire 14 kilometre route to get a glimpse of Lord Jagannath.
