Karnataka minister kicked up row over union minister Dave’s death

The Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (Independent Charge), Shri Anil Madhav Dave flagging off the Walk for the Tiger on the occasion of International Tiger Day, in New Delhi on July 28, 2016.

Karnataka Animal Husbandry Minister A Manju of Congress government has kicked up a row stating over the recent untimely demise of Union Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave, who himself was a known environmental activist.

The Karnataka minister expressed apprehension that the demised union minister, who was a senior BJP leader, might have been hit by a curse for his involvement in the Centre’s decision to ban sale of cattle to slaughterhouses.

Strongly condemning the Centre for the ban, he alleged that it will hit the farmers hard. ‘‘Probably the Union Minister who died recently might have been hit by a curse for signing it,’’ he added. The Karnataka Minister further reminded that the shoes that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wears are also made with cattle skin and by the leather industry, which goes a long way to help farmers.

He deplored that the law is not in the favour of those who clean cow dung but only those who drink milk. He lamented that the Centre did not take the states’ opinion while formulating the law on the ban, which is essential in a federal system. He alleged that the BJP government has imposed the rule in order to cover up its failures,.

He said after consulting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, he will write a letter to the Centre expressing displeasure over it. ‘‘If needed, the state is ready to go court,’’ he added.
