YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded to provide land for land for the Polavaram project oustees in the project command area and additional compensation on par with the present land rates should be given. As part of his two-day visit in the agency area of East Godavari district to meet the Polavaram project displaced people, he deplored that tribal lands are being forcibly taken away and no compensation is being given.
Stating that only 125 houses have been constructed and they were constructed during YSR’s regime, he said that not even an acre of land has been given to the poor people. Instead, he is forcibly trying to acquire the lands belonging to the poor and the under-privileged. Jaganmohan Reddy also demanded that everyone who is 18 years of age should be given a package of not less than Rs 10 lakh. Terming these demands just, he said he would bring pressure on the Chandrababu government through people’s struggles.
He lamented that Chandrababu Naidu is not showing any sympathy to the tribals and the farmers who would lose lands, while he is all sympathy for the Polavaram contractors. Asserting that the Polavaram project is the lifeline of the people of the state, Reddy said that at the same time tribals who have sacrificed their land and livelihood should be equally compensated.
