`Darshaka Ratna’ Dasari Narayana Rao is no more

Prominent Tollywood director and former union minister Dasari Narayana Rao passed away on Tuesday evening at KIMS hospital, where he has been admitted a week ago. He was 75. Dasari’s health condition turned critical at KIMS hospital, where he was put on haemo-dialysis. The doctors had performed a surgery to him three days ago. Dasari had undergone gastric balloon surgery three days ago. 


Post this surgery, several internal organs were found to be infected. From Tuesday morning, heavy fluctuations were noticed in his blood pressure and sugar levels. It may recalled that the ace director had fallen sick a month ago after he complained of difficulty in breathing. He was later discharged from the hospital after treatment. Since then, his health continued to deteriorate.

He has created history by directing more than 150 films and also makes a record in the Gunnies Books of Records. He born in Palakollu of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh on May 4, 1942. He started his film career directing `Thatha Manavudu’ film and since then he directed several hit pictures with prominent artists like Akkineni, NTR and almost all prominent Telugu actors. He was also Rajya Sabha member twice and a former union minister. He campaigned for Congress party in 2004 elections.

He was also guide and philosopher for several directors and also actor to reach prominent in films. He was also a producer and produced 53 films. He had contributed story and screen play to more than 250 films. He also acted in many films in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. He also directed one Hindi film.

His films spoke of social justice and equal rights for all. He stood for the underdog and his films were trend setters. He gave actors like Mohan Babu, Murali Mohan and R Narayana Murthy, directors like Kodi Ramakrishna and Relangi Narasimha Rao. He made Sridevi, Jayasudha and Jayaprada super stars. He is respectfully addressed as Guruvu Garu in the film industry.
